Match Facts
In all European competitions, Dinamo Zagreb have lost their last seven games against German opposition, scoring six goals while conceding 25, including nine in a 9-2 loss to Bayern Munich earlier this season.
Borussia Dortmund have never previously faced a Croatian side in any European competition. It’s the first time Dortmund will face a new nation in Europe since facing Cypriot side APOEL Nicosia in October 2017 and drawing 1-1.
Dinamo Zagreb have won their last two UEFA Champions League matches, as many as they had in their previous 25 combined (W2 D4 L19). They’ve never won three in a row in either the European Cup or Champions League.
Since the start of last season, only Real Madrid (11) have won more UEFA Champions League matches than Borussia Dortmund (10), who have won six of their last eight games; the other two games were defeats to Real Madrid (2024 final, MD3 this season).
All 10 of Dinamo Zagreb’s goals in the UEFA Champions League this season have been scored from open play. Across the first four matchdays, Barcelona (11) were the only side to score more times from open play than the Croatian side (10).Â
Borussia Dortmund have scored more goals following high turnovers (4) than any other side in the UEFA Champions League this season. Nuri Sahin’s side have been highly efficient at turning their pressing efforts into goals, scoring with 50% of their shots following a high turnover (4/8).
Dinamo Zagreb’s Martin Baturina has been involved in seven goal-ending sequences of play in the UEFA Champions League this season (from open play); the joint-most of any player through the opening four matchdays, along with Barcelona’s Raphinha (7).
Borussia Dortmund’s Serhou Guirassy has been involved in at least one goal in his last five UEFA Champions League appearances (4 goals, 2 assists), which includes one game with Rennes in 2020. The Guinea international could be the seventh African player to score or assist in six games in a row, and the first since Mohamed Salah in 2022-23.
Marko Pjaca has assisted three goals for Dinamo Zagreb in the UEFA Champions League this season. Only three Croatian players have ever made more in a single campaign: Darijo Srna in 2010-11 (5), Luka Modric in 2021-22 (4) and Zvonimir Boban in 1993-94 (4).
Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck has made 77 line-breaking passes in the UEFA Champions League this season; the most of any player through the opening four matchdays. 26 of those have been made into the final third, with only Paris SG’s Marquinhos (27) making more after four games this term.
