McNulty Q&A: 'I'd be very tempted to start Shaw - if he's fit'
- Published
成人快手 chief football writer Phil McNulty has been answering your England questions before Wednesday's Euro 2024 semi-final against the Netherlands.
Andy asked: There was one example against Switzerland where Luke Shaw ran around Phil Foden on the overlap and took two defenders with him. For me, that's the perfect example of why Gareth Southgate took Shaw and why he has to start on Wednesday. What do you think?
Phil replied: I would be very tempted - if I was convinced in my own mind that Shaw was fit - to start him against the Netherlands. We presume Southgate will know that. He looked very good when he came on and, as you say, gave England more of a balance and attacking threat on the left, where they have struggled at Euro 2024.
Southgate, however, is a huge admirer of Kieran Trippier, speaking in glowing terms about him pretty much every chance he gets. He not only sees him as a key player but often talks about Trippier鈥檚 outstanding communication and the way he talks colleagues through games. He thinks that is a bit of a dying art in the game and Trippier is one of the best.
