Five acts from 成人快手 Radio Sheffield took part in the Comic Relief karaoke night at Ponds Forge on 15th March 2007, supported by five members of the public who had made it through the Showerstar Superstar auditions when the 成人快手 Bus toured South Yorkshire in search of singing talent.

Judges

The judges were South Yorkshire singer Sunny Day; St Elmo's Fire singer John Parr; and comedian and 成人快手 Radio Sheffield presenter Jimmy Carol - a fine line-up.

Bob Ballard & the Newsteam and Nicola

Bob Ballard and the Newsteam (Peggy Walker, James Vincent and Natalie Clifford) were first up, singing 'Tragedy' by Steps. They even had the dance moves - but it was the girls who held it together!

They were supported by 21-year-old Nicola Dacey, the youngest act of the night who put on a fantastic show with her rendition of 'The Rose' by Bette Midler, which she said she always sings because it's her grandma's favourite song. Nicola lives in Penistone and auditioned for Showerstar Superstar when the 成人快手 Bus and shower cubicle visited Peel Square in Barnsley.

Jamie, Seth and Ray

After Bob & co came Radio Sheffield Sport's Seth Bennett and Jamie Campbell from the Toby Foster Show with their dazzling (?!) performance of 'Suspicious Minds' by Elvis.

Jamie turned up decked in full Elvis gear and his Elvis-style mumbling got in the way of the lyrics a bit. But the boys provided serious entertainment, especially when they fell to their knees in true Elvis stylee.

Supporting Jamie and Seth was Ray Newman who bumped the points up a bit with his great version of 'Wonderwall' by Oasis. Ray lives in Hillsborough and has a stall in Sheffield Market selling hoover parts. He auditioned in Barnsley with 'Handbags & Gladrags' by The Stereophonics.

Antonia Brickell & Tom Green, and Paul

The Breakfast team - Antonia Brickell and her handsome producer Tom Green - sang Nancy and Frank Sinatra's 'Something Stupid'. It was Antonia's last night at Radio Sheffield before moving on to pastures new at 成人快手 Radio Cambridge, and she certainly went out with a bang! The judges weren't impressed though, awarding only four points to the Breakfast team :(

But their support act Paul Newman (not the actor) bumped the scores up somewhat, getting nines and tens for his version of 'I'm A Believer' by The Monkees. 30-year-old Paul auditioned on Sheffield Fargate and won the audition judges over with his version of Kylie Minogue's 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head'.

Rony Robinson & Katrina Bunker, and Helen

Then came Radio Sheffield legend Rony Robinson and the girl who holds it all together, his producer Katrina Bunker.

Rony was wearing a very odd pair of dungarees, loud tie and funny hat - in an attempt to look like Elton John?! and they sang 'Don't Go Breaking My Heart' by Elton John and Kiki Dee, with a running commentary from Katrina who prompted Rony to sing and dance all the way through. It was obvious that not much practice had gone into that act!

Their support act Helen Beck, a medical rep from Rotherham whose whole family was out in force to support her, gave a much better show with 'Shania Twain's Man, I Feel Like a Woman!'

Paulette Edwards and Tristan

Nu Black presenter Paulette Edwards brought the house down as Shirley Bassey when she sang 'Big Spender', complete with feather boa and wig. The crowd went wild, and her support act Tristan Drew maintained the standard with Will Young's 'Leave Right Now'. 25-year-old Tristan from Barnsley works for Capita in Sheffield and recently auditioned for Joseph.

Who won?

It was Paulette and Tristan of course! They won by a mile, eight points clear of fourth place.

Here are the scores:

Paulette Edwards and Tristan Drew: 53!
Rony & Katrina, and Helen Beck: 45
Jamie & Seth, and Ray Newman: 44.5
Bob & the Newsteam and Nicola Dacey: 44
Tom & Antonia, and Paul Newman: 41
