Story, screenplay, dialogues and direction by: Aditya Chopra
Cast: Shahrukh Khan, Vinay Pathak and introducing Anushka Sharma
Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is a sweet, romantic film, based on the marriage of Surinder Sahni (Shahrukh Khan) and听Taani (Anushka Sharma) - a couple with a huge age difference. There is no real romance between these two people who also possess very different characteristics.
The lead pair in the film
Surinder is a simple, clean-hearted, honest man working for Punjab Power and leading a humdrum life. Taani is more flamboyant, fun-loving and vivacious.
Into their mundane lives comes a reality dance television show called Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (meaning 'match made in heaven').
Taani wants to take part, but is too scared to do so because her husband is old fashioned. She fears that if she dances with him, she will definitely be out of the competition. What's more, she will become a laughing stock among her friends, who are also taking part.
Shah Rukh Khan as Surinder Sahni
Surinder overhears his wife's dilemma and so decides to go for a makeover. With a complete image change he woos Taani off her feet. But throughout the competition, she keeps falling in love with her partner, not realising that the man she is dancing with is her real husband.
What follows is a journey filled with laughter, tears, joy, pain, music, dance and a lot of love. A journey that makes us believe there is an extraordinary love story in every ordinary jodi (meaning 'couple').
Directed by Aditya Chopra, who earlier gave us box office hits like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995) and Mohabbatein (2000), Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi is Aditya's third directorial venture in eight years. The film stars Shah Rukh Khan and newcomer Anushka Sharma in key roles.
Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi also has a song and dance sequence with a special appearance by Kajol, reminding audiences of the magic of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.
The film releases in UK cinemas on 12 December 2008 by Yash Raj Films based in London.
