Maan Gaye Mughall-E-Azam is a madcap, contemporary comedy about how a small town drama company gets involved in a deadly mission to save their country. The film goes back to around 1993 and a time when India seemed engulfed by communal riots.
St Louis, a small town near Goa, is put on high alert by police officers due to illegal activities such as arms trading.
Also present in the same town is the Kalakar Theatre Company - a small local theatre group made up of self-indulgent dreamy actors, who are left with no choice but to perform the same age-old period play Mughall-E-Azam.
One day they discover an underworld gangster is planning a severe bomb blast in the country. And so begins a very funny and thrilling roller-coaster ride as the entire drama company designs 'a deadly game plan'.
Those involved include sexy, smart and naughty actress Shabnam (Mallika Sherawat), who dreams of making it big in Bollywood. But on the other hand she is also waiting for a young lover to whisk her away from a boring marriage. Her seductive qualities finally come in handy as the drama company attempt to save the country from the terrible bomb blasts.
Prince of romance Arjun (Rahul Bose) is secretly in love with Shabnam. He has a serious agenda on his mind and a sweet love plan in his heart. Motivating the theatre group for something bigger than just a few claps, he eventually traps them in a deadly game.
Uday Shankar (Paresh Rawal) is a possessive husband who is excessively obsessed with his acting. Gullible and a born-loser, Uday is also a committed actor and risks his life to perform a challenging role.
Haldi Hassan (Kay Kay Menon) is the stylish, romantic singer, who is always ready to fall in love with his female fans. He speaks romance, sings romance, he lives romance. But no one understands his antiquated lingo and how his mysterious mind works.
Using disguises to perform multiple roles, these characters make you laugh as they save the entire nation in a hilarious, slapstick climax.
Maan Gaye Mughall-E-Azam is a comic caper about losers who become winners, as actors become heroes. The film is directed by talented writer, director and lyricist, Sanjay Chhel of Khoobsurat (2000) and Kyaa Dil Ne Kaha (2003) fame.
The movie released in UK cinemas on Friday 22 August 2008, by Tip Top Entertainment.
