Second day on fabulous Orkney, for me and Graham up promoting the new Northern Isles section. We are first time visitors so our cultural gaffs are coming thick and fast - there is no end to our cultural ignorance!
We are hoping for some blogs of the Kirkwall Christmas and New Year Ba', from brave-hearted photo-journalists. Anybody up for that?
Managed to find a Beer Tasting session at the Orkney College last night after a hard days work...Valhalla Brewery (from Shetland) combining with local home-brew connoisseurs investigating the advantages of bere-based beer.
One for the Coll Bar I think. We were also told of the local delicacy of Brides Kog (sp?) a heated blend of beer and spirits passed round at weddings by the happy couple. We effete Glaswegians new nothing of such practices, but it sounds great. Graham was seen taking recipe notes while slugging from a Irn-Bru bottle with mysterious contents.
Good to see a few more Orkney and Shetland blogs kicking off today - Tuesday and one from Fair Isle.
Welcome one and all.
