Calling the Western Isles

Calling all island bloggers in the Western Isles - I'm very flattered that you're prepared to let me carry the can for the area. Nonetheless, I'm sure that other people have things to report, stories to tell that don't reach my ears and eyes.
Calumannabel, isn't there going to be a Half Marathon in Lewis this month? The object is that runners are sent on a course which leads from Tolsta (on the eastcoast) to Borve (on the West Side) across the moors. The object is not to come first, but for at least half the competitors of each team to finish the race. It is anticipated that a number of athletes will not finish the race as they are likely to get lost, get stuck in a bog or possibly lured away by the will o' the wisps that haunt the moors west of Muirneag.

Currently suffering from post fank stress and pursuing other writing tasks. Annie B and/or myself may well start something else up shortly - we are exchanging ideas. As for the Lewis Half Marathon - the course is not one I'd like to tackle. I've fished those moors esp up the Dell and Galson rivers and to say they are an obstacle course is an understatement. Do you know there is a dyke running from Skigersta to Carloway clearly dicernible from the air? It was probably cut with animal bones. I was always taught to find the dyke if a mist descended and I could find my way back.

Half-marathons? Why not go the whole hog? But, please, only do it any day from Monday through Thursday. Remember: Friday, prayer time for Muslims, Saturday, for Jews, and, Sundays for Christians of every stripe.

I have been in Lewis since late 2004 and am observing life on this fascinating island from an outsider's perspective. I look out at the lighthouse every day - as it looks out over the island and the sea.
