INTRODUCTION
The ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ’s Schools Website contains learning materials for use inside and outside the classroom. These Guidelines are designed to help teachers, pupils and parents in the UK make maximum use of the Schools Website, while still observing the bbc.co.uk Terms of Use.
The guidelines also identify a limited number of materials on the Schools Website which are available for teachers to print out and make multiple copies of for use in the classroom. These are materials for which the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ has been able to obtain all the necessary copyright permissions, and over time we may be able to add more materials to the list.

THE GUIDELINES
Downloading or Printing Copies
Teachers, pupils and parents may make a copy, including a print-out or photocopy, of any part of the School’s Website for their own personal, non-commercial use, including for private study or research.
Any other use, unless specified in these Guidelines, requires the prior written permission of the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ. Please contact ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Schools.
Here are some examples of what this means in practice:
- Parents may print copies for use by their children at home;
- Teachers may make copies for lesson preparation
- Teachers can ask pupils to access and work on any part of the Schools Website in the classroom or at home
- Pupils can download, and print out and keep pages from the Website, in the classroom or at home
- Teachers, pupils and parents can save the Schools Website or any part of it locally, including in 'Favourites' or 'Bookmarks'.
Multiple Copies for use in the Classroom
Teachers may print and make multiple copies of the following materials on the Schools Website for use in the classroom or for in-school teacher training:
- 'Print and Do' activities
- Worksheets
Pupils may take home the copy or print-out provided to them in the classroom for their own private use or study.
This is a special permission for specified parts of the Schools Website only, where the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ has been able to obtain the necessary copyright permissions. It does not apply to other parts of the Schools Website, nor to bbc.co.uk nor to linked sites.
Ways in which Schools Website material can be used
Teachers, parents and pupils may adapt or alter material on the Schools Website or create their own work derived from it, provided the adapted, altered or new work is for their own personal, non-commercial or in-classroom use only.
Any other use, unless specified in these Guidelines, requires the prior written permission of the ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ. Please contact ³ÉÈË¿ìÊÖ Schools.
Here are some examples of what this means in practice:
- Teachers may take a part of the Schools Website or an extract from it to include in their own in-classroom teaching aid;
- Pupils can cut, paste and re-order material, or make compilations of it, as a part of their classroom work or homework or for their own personal or educational use;
- Pupils can include parts of the Schools Website in their own learning projects, including multimedia projects;
- Material from the Schools Website can be displayed within the classroom or on school premises to demonstrate class and/or individual pupils’ work.
Restrictions on Using Material

Copies of the Schools Website, incorporated in class or pupils work or otherwise, may not be used for any promotional, administrative or commercial purpose of the school.
- Copies or work incorporating copies of, or extracts from, the Schools Website may not be offered for sale, sold, hired out or be shown to fee paying audiences.
