Edith Piaf 29 December 2003
It is 40 years since she died. There's been a resurgence of interest in her in France this year because of the anniversary.

Most famous for the anthem Je ne regrette rien, she was called "The little Sparrow" - and died young having experienced anything but "La Vie en Rose".

Edith Piaf's remarkable voice represented France for millions of fans outside her own country. We ask why her music is enjoying a revival this year and explore her legacy.

Jenni is joined by Jo Howard, a Piaf tribute singer and Dr David Loosely from Manchester University, an expert in French popular music and author, to discuss Piaf's legacy and the interest in her music.

Popular Music in Contemporary France: Authenticity, Politics, Debate
