Myrna Mack Saturday 5 October 2002
Myrna Mack was a woman who decided to draw attention to the repressive military regime in Guatemala - she paid for it with her life. Twelve years ago Myrna, a well-known anthropologist, was murdered. She was killed after her field studies in rural Guatemala revealed military intimidation of communities who the army suspected of supporting left-wing rebels.

Yesterday, Juan Valenica, a colonel in the Guatemalan army was sentenced to 30 years in prison for her murder. He is the first senior army figure to be convicted of human rights abuses carried out during Guatemala's three decade long civil war that ended in 1996.
Martha talks to Myrna's sister, Helen Mack. They're joined by Lorna Davidson from the Lawyers Committee for Human Rights in New York who championed Helen's right to a fair investigation and trial
