Many of us have seen the war against terror, following September 11th as a means of liberating women in Afganistan from the restrictions that were forced upon them.
To some extent it's happened. Girls can now go to school, women can earn a living, but the symbol of oppression, the burka, which everyone thought would be thrown off by Afghan women, has remained.
Indeed sales are said to have gone up. It's led some commentators to question whether westernisation is all it was cracked up to be.
Polly Toynbee of the Guardian and Dr Shaheen Ali of the University of Warwick join Jenni to discuss.
