The Pankhursts Thursday 1 November 2001
Christabel dreamed of being a ballet dancer, Sylvia an artist and Adela a teacher.

Instead, the three sisters, along with their feisty mother, Emmeline, were destined to change the face of British history.
With the formation of the WSPU - the Women's Social and Political Union, in 1903, the Pankhursts introduced militancy into the fight for the vote.
They were dubbed 'Suffragettes' and their stone-throwing campaigns and prison hunger strikes were to become legendary.
In his new book, the first on the Pankhursts for 33 years, Martin Pugh chronicles the life and work of this extraordinary family.
The Pankhursts by Martin Pugh (Allen Lane The Penguin Press, ISBN: 0713994398, 拢20.00).
