The first Women鈥檚 Liberation Movement Conference 25 Feb 2010
The 40th anniversary

On February 27 1970, around 500 women came together for the first UK Women's Liberation Conference which was held at Ruskin College in Oxford . The conference is widely seen as a pivotal moment in the growth of the Women鈥檚 Liberation Movement and it produced four key demands including equal pay, equal education and job opportunities, free contraception and abortion on demand, and 24-hour nurseries. Now special conferences are being held to celebrate the 40th anniversary. Jenni discusses the impact of the first conference with writer Bea Campbell and Prof Catherine Hall of University College London who was one of the women who attended the听original conference.
