Painted Ladies Wednesday 17 October 2001
Last week a new exhibition opened at the National Portrait Gallery, featuring the portraits of women at the Court of Charles II.

The women are mostly known through paintings by the court painter Sir Peter Lely and others.
Painted Ladies sets out to examine the women, their reputations and the paintings, miniatures, medals and prints that depict them.
Corinne Julius visited the exhibition with historian Sonya Wynne and Catharine MacLeod, the co-curator of the show.
They met in front of Catherine of Braganza, the long suffering wife of Charles II.
Painted Ladies: Women at the Court of Charles II is at the Wolfson Gallery, The National Portrait Gallery until 6 January 2002. For full details click on the link.
