Bankers' Bonus
I need my big bonus 鈥
think of the onus
of keeping three homes, a boat, wife and kid,
five cars (all Ferraris), the jet that has flown us
to sun, snow and so
can you loan us a quid?

My aim will be to capture the subliminal
in the criminal mind 鈥
a mobster on a lobster telephone,
a Mafioso鈥檚 gopher on a Mae West lips sofa.
And if a man鈥檚 on trial
for the crime of killing time
I鈥檒l paint him in the dock
with his face replaced
by the face of a melting clock.
Name? Leonardo da Vinci.
My court portraits, needless to say,
will give nothing away.
I鈥檒l choose for the accused
(some lowlife loner geezer)
to look truly elusive
- so very Mona Lisa.
Name? Vincent van Gogh.
I鈥檒l paint my villains in vermillion,
I鈥檒l paint in a fury 鈥
expressionistic yellow strokes
to evoke all the blokes in the jury.
In cases of daylight robbery
I鈥檒l paint a starry night.
Trite as it may sound
I鈥檒l keep my one good ear close to the ground.
Better yet, if I鈥檓 told at the start
that crime doesn鈥檛 pay
I鈥檒l just shrug and say
well 鈥
neither does art.

Muscular exhaustion
from minimal exertion -
a Mount Everest of maladies
that never ends.
No medical explanations
after multiple examinations.
Misunderstanding emanates
from strangers and friends.
鈥淚s it Midlands electricity?
Mechanical engineer?
Middle England? Middle earth? Or middle ear?
Is it Lou Harris, Michael Eavis,
monetary exchange?
Management executive?
The U.S. state of Maine?鈥
Meanwhile my mind modifies
most every tune 鈥

Killing M.E. softly.
Fly M.E. to the moon

no more empty months
of being marginalized
to no more muffled envy
of more energetic lives
to a move back to employment
and maximum enjoyment
of most excellent health
