On 2nd October 2004, Birkbeck College will be holding a conference to mark the work of sociologist Paul Hirst who died last year.听听 A Professor of Social Theory at the college and one of the founders of its School of Politics and Sociology, he is perhaps best known for his writing on globalisation: putting forward the provocative view that the phenomenon is neither as recent, nor as widespread, as is popularly believed.
