Our World Cup Soccer chant is based on a tribal song from Yaounde, our capital city. It's a song about conquest. Traditionally, it was sung before and after a victory so it actually helps you to plan the victory and boost morale. The lyrics go like this: 'Yeah we've got it, we have it, we are going to go back home, wait for us, just plan the party we're coming back'.
At the end, when you actually win you say, 'OK I've got it, here is it. Population, stand up let's dance'. This is a good ending because it means that even when we lose, we can still keep singing the song in preparation for forthcoming victories.
Football is the one big thing which brings Cameroonians together, given that we're a country of about 210 different tribes with diverse traditions and languages. Yes, the national unifying force is definitely football.
