Flora Thompson
Flora Thompson (nee Timms) was the inspiration for Laura Timmins in the series Lark Rise to Candleford.
Flora used her own life experiences as inspiration in writing the book Lark Rise to Candleford. She was born in 1876 in Juniper Hill near Brackley, and lived in The End House, the home of the Timms family in Juniper Hill. She left school at 14 and was offered a job in the post office in Fringford, where she worked for the next 7 years. Flora then married John Thompson in 1903 and moved to Bournemouth, and subsequently Devon. She died, aged 70, in Brixham, Devon, and her ashes buried in Longcross cemetery, Dartmouth.
