Chris has a passion for antiques and design that is literally life-long. While most small children like to sleep with a teddy bear, as a toddler, Chris preferred to share his cot with a Danish lampshade from his Grandparents’ house. An avid collector and reader, he started buying and selling when he was 14 years old.
Chris took a Masters degree in Fine Art Valuation at Southampton Insitute and subsequently worked in several departments at Dreweatts auctioneers. His present job is curator of the Ken Stradling Collection in Bristol, an eclectic array of British and European design from the 20th century, which includes everything from an important suite of furniture by Bauhaus designer Marcel Breuer to a 1960s plastic orange squeezer.
Chris’s other passion is historic architecture, especially the great country houses which Antiques Roadshow often visits. He also loves all things Scandinavian and enjoys visiting the region whenever he can.
Chris’s dream Antiques Roadshow find would be a work by the artist potter Sam Haile, who he considers to be one of the unsung heroes of British ceramics.
