India's 1998 nuclear tests: "I felt devastated"
In May 1998, India conducted five nuclear weapon tests, recieving international condemnation. Weeks later, their neighbours Pakistan followed with their own tests.
Indian artist Nalini Malani, felt "disappointed and devastated" and responded by displaying a video artwork in Mumbai for 10 days. Thousands visited the museum daily and her work generated heated debate.
Nalini was born in 1946, a year before her country gained independence from Britain and was partitioned into India and Pakistan. He grandfather was a landowner in Hyderabad and was forced to leave his home, before he "died of a broken heart" five years later.
She tells Ben Henderson how her experience led her to creating her exhibition, which is currently on display at the Barbican Centre in London.
