Clearing mines and rebuilding lives in Iraq

After serving in the British Army for 26 years Dave Parker is now helping clear explosives in Iraq left by so-called Islamic State fighters.

The explosives expert from Berkshire is part of the UN Mine Action Service that has helped more than a million Iraqi people return to their homes.

Over 19,000 devices were cleared last year and the UK has contributed 拢24.9m to mine action projects since 2015.

There are still two million Iraqis living in refugee camps but Dave says his teams work is allowing them to return to their homes and that he gets satisfaction from the fact they can help the country begin recovery and move forward.
