How my prescription drug addiction destroyed my life
The doctors’ union, the British Medical Association is calling for the urgent introduction of a 24-hour helpline for patients who get addicted to prescription drugs.
5 live Investigates has found that some people have been prescribed powerful drugs - known as benzos - for decades, although guidelines say the maximum should be four weeks.
The BMA will say more specialist services are needed for people who have become addicted to drugs prescribed by their doctors. As well as a dedicated helpline, the organisation wants clearer guidance for doctors on how to help people cut down and stop taking prescription drugs.
