Why the Kardashians are ‘good role models’ for girls
An academic who organised a conference on the Kardashian family has told 5 live that the American reality TV stars ‘are good role models for women'.
The theft of Kim Kardashian’s jewels, and the ordeal to which she was subjected, has put her on the front of many British newspapers – and reopened the debate about the significance and importance of the TV stars.
Dr Meredith Jones, who is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at Brunel University, told Adrian Chiles that criticism of the family for promoting self-obsession is misguided.
She says the family are great role models because they feature strong women who have built their own careers and have created lucrative businesses which they control.
She also praised them for not being supermodels. “These were ordinary girls, plump [with] olive skin. They’ve turned themselves into real life princesses through sheer hard work.”
