E-Cigs, Fracking and a Outdoor Cinema.
Rupal Rajani sits in alongside Jim to start your day with the latest news and updates.
E-cigarettes are 95% LESS HARMFUL than smoking tobacco. That's according to expert evidence published in a new report by Public Health England this morning. But despite overwhelming evidence to show its lack of harm compared to traditional cigarettes, the review also found that - worryingly - increasing numbers of people think so-called 'e-cigs' are equally or MORE HARMFUL than smoking tobacco. It all comes as Leicester is picked to be one of three test centres by the Queen Mary University of London, to measure just how effective the devices are in helping people quit once and for all. From today people in the City will be able to sign-up to take part in a ground-breaking new study which is hoped could potentially save the lives of thousands of people who want to kick the habit. Environmental campaigners are warning that onshore drilling - or fracking - in Leicestershire will bring more harm than good to our area. It follows the government's announcement yesterday that 27 more locations across England - including two here in Leicestershire - are to be offered up for licences to frack for shale oil and gas. Twelve firms - including Egdon Resources and Ineos - have been given the rights to explore for oil and gas at sites north of Loughborough and Melton, as well as a larger area throughout neighbouring Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire. Whether exploration can actually go ahead is subject to local planning consent. There aren't many outdoor cinema's in Leicester that I'm aware of . I just love the idea of being able to watch something on a big screen -sitting in my car or somewhere comfortable and enjoying a good film. As the launch of the "City Festival" -Jubilee Square will be turned into an outdoor cinema.
