Richard Curtis: Three cheers for the UK public
Founder and vice chair of Comic Relief, Richard Curtis, gave "three cheers" to the British public following the success of this year's Red Nose Day.
A record 拢78 million was raised at the end of Friday night, including 拢5 million from Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights live show, but Richard suspects the final total for this year will creep towards 拢100 million thanks to the generosity of the British public.
The charity has raised 拢1 billion since it was founded 30 years ago and in order to sustain its success, Richard said the team are always looking for "new ways" to raise money so that they do not repeat themselves each year.
