Premier League expert: 'Economic madness' to cut prices
A football finance expert says it would be 鈥渆conomic madness鈥 for Premier League clubs to slash ticket prices, because 鈥渕ost clubs can sell out [games] at existing price levels鈥.
Sky and BT Sport have agreed to pay more than 拢5.1 billion for the rights to show Premier League matches for three seasons from 2016.
Kieran Maguire from Liverpool University says this is a minimum of 拢35 million for each club every year.
"This is clearly going to be beneficial to them in their ability to try to break even,鈥 he told 5 live. 鈥淧resently only half of the clubs in the Premier League are making a profit.鈥
