Ex-offender: extra support for imprisoned servicemen is 'bizarre'

An ex-offender does not believe that ex-servicemen should get special treatment if they end up in prison because many of them are not "active" in their service.

Mark Johnson who is a former prisoner and also founder of the charity User Voice, said he could not support the "singling out of one cohort of a population inside a British prison."

He adds that people who have been "sexually, mentally or physcially abused" as children can suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder which may lead on to committing crimes, yet they would not receive preferential treatment.

His comments come after Justice Secretary Chris Grayling announced that new prisoners in England and Wales will receive extra-support if they have served in the armed forces.
