Sculpture Music

Sculpture Music

Matt Calder and John Shaw are based in Ottery St Mary, East Devon.

Matt plays the Panart Hang - an instrument invented in 2001 by Panart in Bern, Switzerland.

The Hang is a cross between Gamelan and harmonically tuned steel pans - with a completely unique sound of their own.

The name 'Hang' come from the Balanese word for hand and there are only around 3000 of these instruments in the world.

John studied music at Dartington, played with the Dartington Gamelan Orchestra and has toured as a performance artist.

Together, their sound has been likened toÌýa cross between Portico Quartet and Massive Attack.

You can make your own mind up when they join us to perform live on today's show.
