Charlie showcases some of the artists appearing at the UK incarnation of this year鈥檚 WOMAD festival which will take place in Wiltshire, in the West of England.

German world music veterans 17 Hippies and Malian singer-songwriter Rokia Traore share Charlie鈥檚 top selection. There is an extra-musical connection between the two US representatives in this week鈥檚 programme: large families. The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble started out as an eight-brother line-up of sons by Sun Ra's lead trumpeter Phil Cohran, while soul legend Solomon Burke has 21 children. (In addition to being a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame-induced musician, Burke also maintains parallel lives as an entrepreneur with a chain of mortuaries and a minister of religion.) Cross-cultural collaboration from Dub Colossus and Radio Kijada complete this week鈥檚 playlist.
