Ritmo y Pasión: A Journey Through Spanish Sounds – Wolf, Bizet, de Falla and Piazzolla.
We begin our journey with a unique take on Spain through one of Hugo Wolf’s Spanish art songs from Spanisches Liederbuch, performed by Niamh O’Sullivan. O’Sullivan then transports us to the heart of flamenco in her rendition of Bizet’s Habanera from Carmen, a piece she performed as an encore from her concert at the Elgar Hall in Birmingham exactly a year to this day. Santiago Canon-Valencia evokes the haunting and vibrant rhythms of de Falla’s Ritual Fire Dance. To finish, Ryan Corbett offers a strikingly beautiful twist on tradition, with Piazzolla’s Ave Maria.
