Wetherby 20

Caroline Hawley learns about tins of chocolate sent to soldiers from York in World War I, while Philip Serrell and Jonathan Pratt guide their teams around an antiques fair in Wetherby.

While the teams try to cut a sweet deal at an antiques fair in Wetherby, Caroline Hawley visits York, which for more than a century has been known as the chocolate-making capital of the UK. She learns how tins of chocolate were sent to local soldiers fighting on the front line, at sea and in prisoner-of-war camps during World War I. She also meets the grandson of one of the recipients – and is surprised to find the chocolate still intact inside his tin!

Battling for bargains are grandmother and granddaughter Daphne and Emily, captained by Philip Serrell. Competing for even bigger profits are colleagues Phil and Sharmarley, skippered by Jonathan Pratt.

There’s trouble from the start when Worcestershire-born Philip learns that Daphne is a Yorkshire cricket fan, and his suggestion of a glug-glug decanter doesn’t impress his team when he learns they are teetotal! Hoping to meet the blues’ challenge, JP spots a pottery cockatoo, but Phil and Sharmarley aren’t cock-a-hoop about the price tag.

At the auction in Ripon, it all comes down to the bonus buys, with one expert having to make the best of his very meagre budget.
