Bargain Hunt – Your Privacy

Bargain Hunt is produced by 成人快手 Studios for broadcast, use and exploitation by the 成人快手 (the Commissioner). We are responsible for handling personal data you provide in accordance with data protection law. We will use your personal data as necessary to assess your suitability as a contestant on this programme and to produce, distribute and promote the programme.

What information we collect and how we use it?

成人快手 Studios will collect and process the personal data you share with us when you contact us directly or via our application form. We will use this information to decide who will take part in the programme and to contact you.
成人快手 Studios relies on its legitimate interests as a media organisation to process your personal information. We will not process your personal information where your rights override our interests.
We may need to collect sensitive information about you if relevant in the context of the programme or where we have a lawful reason to do so. For example, details of medical conditions to identify health and safety risks or to assess your fitness to participate, or information about whether you have any unspent convictions to assess your suitability as a contributor or for safeguarding purposes. Such personal data will generally be restricted to relevant members of the programme’s production team and crew, as well as the programme’s third party experts (where relevant).

Background checks

If you are shortlisted, we will conduct a background check through Google Key Word searches (using your name, address and occupation) and searches of publicly available social media channels; specifically: Facebook, X (formally Twitter) and Instagram. We carry out these searches to screen for adverse information about you which affects your suitability to be part of the programme, or which may have negative impact on the reputation of the 成人快手. This would include, for example, information indicating racist, homophobic, misogynistic, or otherwise discriminatory opinions or beliefs, or serious crime activity. If search results reveal adverse information, this may prevent you from taking part in the programme.
We need your consent to carry out Google Key Word searches and you will be asked to sign a consent form. You can withdraw your consent to Google Key Word searches at any time by emailing bargainhunt@bbc.co.uk. If you do not consent to 成人快手SPL carrying out background checks using your name, address or occupation, or withdraw your consent before we have carried out the searches, you will not be able to take part in the programme.
We carry out searches of publicly available media profiles in accordance with our legitimate interests as a production company to determine your suitability to take part in the programme and to protect our reputation. We will begin carrying out searches of publicly available social media profiles if you are successful at audition stage of the casting process.

Retaining your data

If you are selected to be part of the programme, we will retain as your application form, contact details, and any relevant information collected in connection with fitness to participate (including relevant medical information) and background checks, for up to 24 months in line with our retention schedule. Unless you advise us otherwise, we may also store your details so we can contact you about contributing to future series or other 成人快手 Studios programmes.

Unsuccessful applications will be kept until after broadcast of the programme or series up to a maximum of 24 months. We may retain your contact details if you have indicated you wish for us to contact you about contributing to future series or other 成人快手 Studios programmes.

User Generated Content (UGC)

If you submit UGC, 成人快手 Studios will collect and process your name, email address and video message about Bargain Hunt that you share with us. We may use this footage in an edited form on our X social media account @成人快手BargainHunt or our website in the run-up to our anniversary episode in March 2025. 成人快手 Studios relies on its legitimate interests as a media organisation to process your personal information. We will not process your personal information where your rights override our interests.
If anyone else features in your video, please ensure you have their permission before sharing it with us.
If your video footage is selected by us to appear on our social media or our website, 成人快手 Studios may retain your video footage in perpetuity. We will retain your contact details for up to 7 years in line with our retention schedule. If your footage is not selected to appear on our social media, and you have indicated that you do not wish for us to retain your details, we will delete your data no later than 24 months from the end of the video selection process.

Sharing your information

Your personal information will generally be restricted to relevant members of the Bargain Hunt production team and crew, as well as the programme’s presenters, or as otherwise required by law. Where necessary, we may also share information with other 成人快手 Studio staff and the commissioning broadcaster, with our professional advisors.
We may also share your application data with the Commissioner as part of the selection process. Once we pass your personal data to the 成人快手, they will become a separate data controller of the personal data provided to them and be responsible for processing and storing it in accordance with data protection law and its privacy policy.
