Jo picks her first track from this week鈥檚 Vinyl Revival - Age of Consent by Bronski Beat.

Bronski Beat was formed in 1983 by Jimmy Somerville, Steve Bronski and Larry Steinbachek. The band had 4 top ten singles, and their 1984 debut album 鈥楢ge of Consent鈥� made it to number 4 in the UK album charts.

The title 鈥楢ge of Consent鈥� referred to the disparity between the legal age of consent, both for different sexualities, and in different countries. The band, all openly gay, wanted their music to tell the underrepresented story of the LGBT community, and their debut single 鈥楽malltown Boy鈥� gained particular attention for depicting the tale of a gay man leaving behind provincial homophobia in search of acceptance in the big city.

Age of Consent gained Bronski Beat two Brit nominations in 1994.
