Cheers to the Community

Comedian and writer Esyllt Sears examines the rise of the community pub in Wales and how it takes a village to save a pub, but it鈥檚 these pubs that might just save a village.

With a pub closing every 12 hours in the UK, it鈥檚 been a tough couple of years for these treasured institutions. Its decline exasperated by the pandemic; its revival hampered by a current staffing crisis. But a resistance movement is sweeping through Wales as groups of devoted community members are joining forces to stop their locals from closure and demolition. Their collective effort, passion and determination demonstrates that the pub offers so much more than just a place to drink but is the social glue that binds communities together. Comedian and writer Esyllt Sears examines the rise of the community pub in Wales and how it takes a village to save a pub, but it鈥檚 these pubs that might just save a village.
