Dee Dee Bridgewater Interview

Jamie is joined this week by the Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, producer and actor Dee Dee Bridgewater.

The American singer, songwriter and producer Dee Dee Bridgewater is Jamie’s guest.

One of the most revered vocalists around, Dee Dee’s 50 year career has seen her release countless acclaimed solo records and tour the world many times over. After cutting her teeth with the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra in the early 70s, she released her debut solo record Afro Blue in 1974. Her wide ranging catalogue includes sought-after RnB albums, as well as a number of successful tributes to the jazz legends – her salutes to Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald both won her Grammy Awards.

Ahead of a performance in the UK, Dee Dee speaks to Jamie from the road about her early love of radio, being entranced by jazz as a child and her commitment to only making records she’s truly passionate about.
