Gary Barlow chats to Zoe and plays live music from his first ever Christmas album, The Dream of Christmas. The album features brand new original songs and orchestrated Christmas classics, with an array of collaborations including Sheridan Smith, Aled Jones and The Puppini Sisters. The Dream of Christmas is Gary鈥檚 sixth solo album and follows his acclaimed Number 1, Music Played By Humans, which went to the top of the album charts upon its release in November last year, becoming his third Number 1 solo album and the fastest-selling album from a British artist in 2020.
Richie Anderson鈥檚 invite to be the VIP guest at the Daventry Christmas lights switch on got lost in the post so we鈥檙e letting him flick the big switch on 成人快手 Radio 2 instead as Zoe plays the first Christmas songs of the year on Radio 2.
Plus it鈥檚 The Why Workshop, and Zoe quizzes the QI Elves with more wonders and ponders, including your questions.

Pause For Thought
A few weeks ago, I was marching down our local high street in a frenzy. My daughter was lagging behind so I stopped and asked her to hurry up to which she replied 鈥渓ook mummy, fairies!鈥� She was pointing to the twinkling Christmas lights above our heads and the look of wonder and pure happiness on her face made me pause. I looked up at the lights and decorations and took a deep breath, the air was cold and I could smell sugar and chocolate from the crepe stand beside us. When I scanned the street I noticed that many of the stores had dressed their windows with creative Christmas displays, like our favourite little cake shop and their cute cupcake stacking display that looked like a Christmas tree. Or our hang out coffee shop with their paper coffee cups and gingerbread men welcoming聽passers-by聽to come in and taste the cinnamon coffee.聽
Each store found its own unique way to say 鈥淢erry Christmas鈥�. I noticed the families roaming the street together, familiar strangers who frequent the same places I do, bundled up and enjoying the day with loved ones. All of a sudden I felt like I was in a Christmas movie. It was honestly magical and I almost missed it. I decided to chuck out my to-do list and just savour the moment. We bought some hot chocolate and leisurely walked down the street. I loved watching the excitement on my children鈥檚 faces as they enthusiastically pointed things out and wished that they would always have the ability to see the world with such innocence.聽聽
When we got home that evening we decided to put up the Christmas tree 4 weeks early and join the celebration. Being someone from the Sikh faith who has a public persona as a spiritual kirtan singer and community representative,聽people ask me why I participate in a Christian celebration. And my reply is to remind them that the Sikh Holy Scriptures are written by 35 authors from different social classes, religions and spiritual traditions, making the Sikh scripture the world鈥檚 most interfaith texts. As a Sikh I believe it鈥檚 important to respect wisdom. Whether it聽be from Jesus, Buddha, Allah, Waheguru or from my 3 year old daughter who can see fairies, even in an ordinary high street.聽
