"Who is the happiest?"

"I have studied this extensively. This is the right answer."

"I have always said," Sean says, "that painters are very jolly people. And they are. But I have been doing some research, and staying up all night, and I have come to a decision on the people who are employed, who are happiest. Men and women."

"Posties!" Janet says.

"Posties is good," Sean says. "Not right, but good."

Thomasina suggests carpenters.

"No," Sean says. "Carpenters can be very grumpy. Oooh yes! Oooh! you get on the wrong side of a carpenter you'll know all about it! Hold your tongue!

"Window cleaners?"

"Window cleaners are good, Janet. But I've got one that's better."

"Plumbers," Thomasina says.

"Not Plumbers. Plumbers can be very solemn. It's a very responsible job that they have. They're nice and decent people, but they come in and do their work, and concentrate on it and do their work wonderfully well. But you wouldn't hear a plumber singing. Let me tell you the happiest worker. And I have studied this extensively. This is the right answer. I will take no dictation. It is the jolly butcher. Oh yes, Janet! Thomasina! You both agree. The butchers are always jolly, aren't they? Butchers, the happiest people around."
