Black in Red

In this documentary, Wales international Nathan Blake charts the history of being a black player in the red shirt of Wales.

Football has always had a long running battle with racism at all levels of the game, but with the powerful emergence of the global Black Lives Matter social movement, the most popular sport in the world has no choice but to confront its problems, both on the pitch, in the stands and in the club and association boardrooms of power.

In this documentary Wales international Nathan Blake charts the history of being a black player in the red shirt of Wales.

With contributions from fellow players as well as sporting historians, he asks the powerful questions around campaigns such as Kick it Out and Equal Game and whether they are right to be criticised as token gestures carrying very little of the commitment and urgency required to power a real change in attitudes.

He鈥檒l hear too about their varying and shared experiences of pulling on the dragon crest and representing Wales as players of colour - and as former and current players, what can be learned from the past and current social movements in the drive to kick racism out of football once and for all.
