Richie is in Tim Peake's garden for the Big Bee Challenge and Griff performs live

Tim Peake lets Richie Anderson into his garden for the Big Bee Challenge. Plus Griff, the BRITS Rising Star winner of 2021, performs live from the 成人快手's Maida Vale studios.

Richie Anderson is out on the road for the Big Bee Challenge and is dropping in to see some of our favourite celebrities. Every Friday over the next few weeks, he'll visit their gardens, big and small, across the country because everyone can do something to make a difference for our pollinators - and our celebrity friends are getting involved too.

Today Major Tim Peake has let him into his garden to look at all the ways he can help the bees. Tim Peake is a former Apache pilot, flight instructor, test pilot and current European Space Agency astronaut. In December 2015, Tim became the first British astronaut to visit the International Space Station and conduct a spacewalk during his six month mission. He also ran the London marathon from space!

They're joined by Kate Bradbury, an award-winning garden writer, broadcaster and TV presenter, specialising in wildlife gardening, who guides Tim though planting his own bee-friendly hanging basket.

Griff, the BRITS Rising Star winner of 2021, performs live from the 成人快手's Maida Vale studios. Griff was born Sarah Griffiths to Chinese and Jamaican parents and raised in Kings Langley, Hertfordshire and she is now based in London. She is a singer, songwriter and producer who also does fashion design and music video directing. Griff is 20 years old and put out her first single 鈥楳irror Talk鈥 two years ago in July 2019; it only took her one hour to write the song. She released a single 鈥楲ove If A Compass鈥 for Disney鈥檚 first Christmas advert in 2020. Griff was awarded the BRITs Rising Star Award, following in the footsteps of Celeste, Sam Smith and Adele.

Along with Clare Runacres on news, Richie Anderson on travel and Mike Williams on sport, Zoe and the team have the best start to your morning. With celeb guests, headlines, tunes chosen by listeners and more music than you can shake a glitterball at!

Pause For Thought

Pause For Thought

I was on the train last week heading for town and took the opportunity to spend a penny.

I found the loo, indicating vacant, and pressed the button to operate the door, which slid slowly open to reveal a lady of riper years sitting on the toilet with her knickers round her ankles. The young woman sitting opposite, who had a close up view, whimpered 鈥渕y EYES!鈥 and covered them with her hand. I tried to close the door again, but the opening, once activated, could not be stopped until it was complete 鈥攁nd as I jabbed away, inch by inch, the lady鈥檚 discomfiture was further displayed.听

I stood, gallantly, with my back to her, shielding her from compartment C, to save her blushes, and to spare my fellow passengers the need to bleach the image from their minds before they鈥檇 had their first cappuccino.

Finally the door closed. I returned to my seat and we all did the English thing of pretending absolutely nothing had happened. Until the lady, returning to her seat, caught my eye, and gave a sort of rueful shrug, which I returned.

A scene from sitcom, but my train manager friend says it鈥檚 not unusual 鈥 for the door locks not with a latch but by pressing a button on a panel of buttons differentiated by those all purpose non-lingual symbols we鈥檙e all supposed to understand. But we don鈥檛 understand them. They might as well be hieroglyphics, and almost every day that treacherous door slides back to reveal us as we would not wish to be revealed 鈥 to听ourselves, let alone passengers on the 0624 to London St Pancras.

Catholics traditionally believe that after we die, if there are still sins to settle on our account, we go to purgatory, a place of cleansing, to make us fit for heaven. What鈥檚 that actually like? CS Lewis suggested it would be seeing ourselves as other see us 鈥 not as the heroes of our stories, but as the fools, villains, or walk-ons in other people鈥檚.

I think those awkward moments actually do us a favour, reminding us that we are not the centre of the world鈥檚 concerns, and that like anyone else we too may walk into a lamppost, tuck our skirts into our kickers, deliver a keynote speech with our flies undone.

And enjoying another鈥檚 embarrassment is not the point of this story - no, the point is the rueful shrug I exchanged with the lady, acknowledging that what happened to us could happen to anyone, and we鈥檒l get over it.听
