'Mary, Mary, as Plain as Any Name Can Be'
Sean does his impression of James Cagney in Yankee Doodle Dandy.
A call from a listener, Mary in County Tyrone, gets Sean thinking about a song...
'Mary, Mary...' he says. 'There is a song from one of my favourite films, Yankee Doodle Dandy, with Jimmy Cagney, and there's a song in that about Mary. I'm just trying to remember it...'
'The song starts,' Danny Boyd says, 'Mary, Mary, plain as any name can be.'
And Sean does James Cagney doing the lines: 'But with society, propriety, they say Marie.'
'I think Mary was the name of the songwriter's wife,' Danny says.
Sean agrees. 'Yes, George M Cohan.'
With music from Dave Edmunds, Steve Gibbons, Elvis Presley, Jim Reeves, Jerry Lee Lewis, Brenda Lee, and more.
