On the fifth anniversary of David Bowie鈥檚 death, we celebrate his work during the 1970s.
This true British music icon passed away on the tenth of January 2016.
Ahead of a special programme that's being broadcast from 8pm on both 成人快手 Radio 4 and 成人快手 Radio 6 Music later this evening, we too remember his unique and fascinating talent with a two-hour Sounds of the 70s special that looks back on the decade when he became a global superstar.
His output was incredible with eleven eclectic studio albums released during that 10-year period. With every one of them, he evolved as a musician and performer. You鈥檒l hear at least one track from each, beginning with The Man Who Sold The World in 1970, through Hunky Dory, The Rise & Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars, Aladdin Sane, Pin Ups, Diamond Dogs, Young Americans, Station To Station, Low, Heroes, and right up to 1979鈥檚 Lodger.
Johnnie was a keen supporter of David and his music right from the off, so much so that Bowie returned the favour by recording a four-song session for his Radio 1 Lunchtime Show in May 1972. That remarkable set features breathtaking versions of Changes, Space Oddity, Oh You Pretty Things, and Starman, and they'll be given a rare airing once more.
Plus, we鈥檝e archive interview clips from producer Tony Visconti, super-fans Nile Rodgers and Boy George, Spiders From Mars drummer Woody Woodmansey, and keyboard legend Rick Wakeman, plus a few tracks from some of the other musicians that Bowie helped during the decade, including Lou Reed, Mott The Hoople, Iggy Pop and Lulu.
Finally, we'll round off the show with the classic that's now the world's most-streamed Bowie song of the Seventies, demonstrating that this man's work continues to resonate with global audiences young and old.
