Reflection and prayer with Sister Geraldine Smyth OP

Prayer for the Day - Friday 20th March 2020
Good morning For those living in a post-conflict era, the past is a scarred landscape. The 2019 成人快手 film, Lost Lives, is a searing commemoration of the close to four thousand people killed in conflict in and about Northern Ireland, no matter who or by whom. Originally a daily chronicle of these 鈥滾ost Lives鈥 as compiled by five journalists, the film holds a taut balance: re-presenting the actual context - a saga of bloodshed, retaliation, stalemate, rupture, heartbrokenness; but, the litany of names, the remembering of loved ones by loved ones, gives a shape of human dignity and transcending beauty of spirit, to the personal reflection on loss and the search for truth or justice, and the possibility of forgiveness.
Today, we remember two children, who lost their lives to an IRA bomb in Warrington, March 1997 鈥 Tim Parry and Jonathan Ball. We acknowledge their parents, who conspired in their unspeakable loss to build a legacy of hope, in the opening, in 2000 of the Tim Parry and Jonathan Ball Young People鈥檚 Centre, with accommodation for local and visiting groups (including from Ireland), to learn how to overcome violence through understanding root causes and in peacebuilding. The Centre testifies to the eternal significance of Jonathan and Tim鈥檚 lives.聽
May the teaching of Jesus, and of all who overcome enmity with love, be fulfilled in us today: 鈥淗appy those who mourn; they shall be comforted鈥 Happy the peacemakers; they shall be called children of God,鈥 Amen. 聽
