Punching on ice. PSNI sponsored Belfast Giants game sees bust up between players on the rink. Does this impact credibility of PSNI鈥檚 鈥淥ne punch can kill鈥� campaign?

On Saturday night, The Belfast Giants ice hockey organisation celebrated and promoted a punch up which occurred on the ice.

It involved two players, we don't know who was to blame and whether one of them was simply trying to defend themselves, but punches rained down in front of thousands of men women and children.

The 鈥渇amily friendly 鈥� Belfast Giants weren鈥檛 embarrassed about it - they selected the footage of the punch up for their social media - rejoicing 鈥渢he gloves are off鈥�.

And guess who the sponsors of Saturdays game were - the PSNI.

It appears that the police have told the Nolan Show that unless one of the players complain - they are not going to do anything about it.

How does that sit with the PSNI 鈥渙ne punch can kill" campaign?

How can the police have any credibility in that campaign if they are so indifferent to the punches at the Odyssey on Sat night?

We are not naive - aggressive fighting and punching has been a part of the ice hockey sport for years - but why is it acceptable ?

And how is it not subject to a criminal investigation?
