Highland games in Atlanta, rehearsing Handel’s Messiah in Ulster-Scots, and Donaghadee's long connections to Portpatrick
Forging our links with the Highland Games in Atlanta, singing The Messiah in Ulster-Scots down the Peninsula and Donaghadee’s long history as a crossing point to Scotland.
We’ve a local, international and classical bag of blether and banter in this week’s Kintra: Rab Lennox goes all the way to Atlanta for the Stone Mountain Highland Games and is surprised to meet so many old friends from home - clearly the Ulster-Scots/Scotch-Irish connections are alive and thriving.
In Donaghadee, Helen Mark hears about the importance of its harbour over the centuries in developing the town and keeping alive the close links with Scotland.
Further down the Ards Peninsula, Diana Culbertson meets the singers rehearsing Handel’s Messiah in Ulster-Scots for a performance to be televised near Christmas.
With banter and chat along the way and a look at what’s coming up for the Ulster-Scots community, that’s this week’s Kintra.
The team would love to hear from anyone with an Ulster-Scots yarn to share or an event to promote. You can contact them anytime – Kintra@bbc.co.uk or say hello if you see them out and about.
