The Boat Race Edition

The Reverend Kate Bottley and Jason Mohammad present ethical and religious issues, with guests and spiritual music.

This Sunday millions of people will watch the historic battle between the Oxford and Cambridge University rowing teams on the River Thames. Steve O’Connor is from Fulham Reach Boat Club which provides hundreds of school pupils access to rowing. Along with pupil Christian, he tells Kate and Jason how the teamwork and discipline of rowing has changed many lives.

Shocking reports about knife crime and youth violence prompted the PM, Theresa May to host a summit on the issue at Downing Street this week. Tom Isaac is Head of Youth Services at the faith charity, Oasis. He runs a team of volunteers based out of the A+E Department of a major South London hospital where they are working to tackle gang violence and create more peaceful communities.

Tom is joined by Dan Watson, Youth Pastor from the London based Hillsong Church and part of the team behind a new book, ‘Fearfully Made’. Tackling the ‘big fears’ of the day. Dan is also working to tackle youth violence and is part of the Mayor of London's task force on the issue.

And writer Clare Gogerty joins Kate and Jason to discuss why so many of us are embracing pilgrimage to focus our minds during these stressful and turbulent political times. Clare says a pilgrimage can be a short mindful walk which gives you a chance to feel connected and relaxed. Clare's book, 'Beyond the Footpath: Mindful Adventures for Modern Pilgrims' is out now.
