Medical Aid Films uses film and animation to transform the health of women and children around the world. Our work started when midwife Fiona Laird witnessed babies dying needlessly from tetanus in a refugee camp in Darfur in 2006; their umbilical cords had been cut with a dirty knife.  Fiona organised simple training about how to deliver and care for a newborn baby safely but demand far outweighed the resources available.  And so our founders created Medical Aid Films to provide sustainable film-based resources in countries where skills and training are scarce. 

Badra trained to be a midwife in Somaliland, one of the most dangerous places in the world for a woman to give birth.  Using resources produced by Medical Aid Films, Badra learned life-saving nursing and midwifery skills.  She now delivers hundreds of healthy babies each year. 

We bring together health experts with filmmakers to create engaging, accessible films – empowering health workers and communities with vital knowledge and skills about women’s and children’s health.
