Released on May 16, 1966, the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds is universally hailed as one of the greatest albums of all time. Sumptuous and otherworldly, Pet Sounds drew a line in the sand between the band's girls/cars/surfing past and Brian Wilson's maturing focus on personal identity and life's unknowns.
Pet Sounds not only changed the Beach Boys forever - it changed everything that came after it. Starting with The Beatles, whose Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band was a direct response, Pet Sounds has inspired innovators and indie artists of every musical era of the last 50 years.
In The Children of Pet Sounds, presenter and lifelong Beach Boys buff Katie Puckrik connects the dots between Pet Sounds and the legion of contemporary artists indebted to this incandescent sonic bellwether.
Key tracks from Pet Sounds are interwoven with the work of more recent artists, tracing the PS DNA through the musical mavericks of the last five decades. The selections and Katie's commentary are contextualized with archive clips and interviews.
