A' Suathadh Ri Iomadh Rubha

Documentary looking at the lives and work of the Campbell family of Ness, Isle of Lewis, in writing, performance and music.

Nuair a chaochail Tormod Caimbeul (Tormod a' Bhocsair) ann an 2015, bha e air iomadach nobhail agus leabhar chloinne fhoillseachadh sa Gh脿idhlig. Bha meas ga dheanamh air mar 霉ghdar cho cudtromach sa bh'anns a' ch脿nan, san 20mh linn. Cha b'e ceannachd a rinn 猫 ...

Bha athair Thormoid, Aonghas Caimbeul (Am Bocsair) na sh脿r bh脿rd, ged a chaochail e gl猫 貌g. Agus b'e bhr脿thair-san, air an robh Aonghas cuideachd, a sgr矛obh a cheud leabhar f猫in-eachdraidh sa G脿idhlig. Thug Suathadh Ri Iomadh Rubha luaidh air sg矛re Nis ann an Eilean Le貌dhais, agus air a' choimhearsnachd 脿raid bha t脿mh ann.

An seo, coinnichidh sinn ri na Caimbeulaich tro tr矛 ghinealach, a' cluinntinn mu'n obair sgr矛obhaidh as an robh Am Bocsair agus Am Puilean an s脿s - agus mu'n d貌igh as am bheil na sgilean cruthachail aca tighinn beo fhathast tro chlann Thormoid fh猫in.

'Bha an c貌mhnaidh st貌raidhean a' dol,' tha Se貌ras Caimbeul, am mac is sine aig Tormod, ag 矛nnse dhuinn. Coltach ri bhr脿thair D貌mhnall Alasdair, tha Se貌ras ce貌lmhor agus gu m貌r an s脿s ann an c貌mhlain ci霉il is cl脿radh. Tha am piuthair, Catriona Lexy, aithnichte na sgr矛obhaiche 矛 fhein, agus 矛 air leabhraichean fhoillseachadh airson clann is inbhich 貌ga, a bharrachd air a bhith na cleasaiche agus sgr矛obhaiche theatar. Tha am mathair, M脿iri S矛ne Chaimbeul, cuideachd air cli霉 a chosnadh na seinneadair. Tha cothrom coinneachadh ris an teaghlach, agus s霉il as 霉r a thoirt air an eachdraidh sh貌nraichte aca, an c貌mhnaidh a' tilleadh gu cladaichean Nis agus am baile as an d'fhuair iad 脿rach - Dail bho Dheas. Aig an aon 脿m tha luaidh ga thoirt air Tormod a' Bhocsair fh猫in, agus an d矛leab iongantach a dh'fh脿g e ann an saoghal litreachais G脿idhlig.

On his death in 2015, Norman Campbell had written and published many novels and children's books in Gaelic. He remains one of the 20th century's most respected Gaelic writers. In this programme we learn not just of his own work but that of his father and uncle - and of the achievements of his children in the arts today.

Norman's father Angus Campbell was a prolific poet. His brother, also Angus, wrote what is considered to be Gaelic's first published autobiography. A' Suathadh Ri Iomadh Rubha painted a vivid picture of the parish of Ness, Isle of Lewis - especially its people. Two generations on, Norman Campbell's children continue to carve out careers in literature, music and performance. We meet them at work and take them back to their beloved Ness to reflect on the creative skills they have inherited.
