Singer-songwriter Kiran Leonard joins Lauren Laverne to play music from new album Grapefruit.

The frighteningly talented young singer-songwriter joins us with music from Grapefruit, which sees release on Friday.

With just 20 years and one album on the clock, Oldham's Kiran Leonard has already established a reputation as a true eclectic. For his second album, Grapefruit, he ditched the twenty or so instruments that he played single-handedly on his 2012 debut in favour of a more conventional four-piece line up. You'd be forgiven for thinking, then, that Grapefruit signifies a 'back to basics' approach for the young singer-songwriter; you would also be wrong. At the end of last year, Leonard announced his return to the scene with single 'Pink Fruit'. His reputation for experimentation was renewed over the course of its erratic, un-pin-down-able 16 minutes. To say it sounds like Slint covering Jeff Buckley standards is the best we can muster. Lauren welcomes Kiran to the studio to hear previews from that new record, and to talk to the artist about his presumably bonkers process.
