The oldest purpose-built cinema in Scotland, the Hippodrome in Bo'ness launches its 4th annual Festival of Silent Cinema today. Oscar-winning filmmaker and leading silent cinema historian Kevin Brownlow tells Janice about his documentary on legendary star Lon Chaney and composer and silent film accompanist, Jane Gardner and fellow musician Roddy Long will be giving us a sneak preview of their newly commissioned soundtrack to 1933 Japanese gangster noir Dragnet Girl.

Film and TV critic, Graeme Virtue shares his thoughts on silent film, what we might be missing on the winter TV schedules and he'll be giving us his hot tickets.

A highly unusual self-portrait by the celebrated Scottish artist Angela Palmer has become part of the Scottish National Portrait Gallery's permanent collection. Angela tells Janice how she created a portrait of her own brain.

Scottish artists Christine Jones' latest exhibition at The Park Gallery in Falkirk explores Spain's still raw wounds from the country's Civil War and Franco's reign. The inspiration for her work is German Jewish photographer Gerda Taro who worked on the frontline during the war. Taro's biographer Irme Schaber talks to us from Stuttgart about this extraordinary woman.
